A User’s Guide

Like a passport and clean sheets,
a User’s Guide provides comfort,
together with an abundance of possibly
useful information that will never be read.

You’ve leafed through its pages
like a hand–made cartoon story,
looking perplexed at what you couldn’t find,
trying to remember what you were looking for.

Like you, it was there just a minute ago.
It’s odd, but binoculars are close at hand,
so you focus on what’s far away,
since there’s nothing for you here.

It must be that someone tore those pages out.
You check between your sheets,
find your passport and signs of recent history.
But no instructions for the here and now.
