But You

I visited my dream
on the edge of darkness
I was myself
for the first time the same

clearly
I saw the real me
all my infirmity

there were people I used to know
I let them learn
all the truth about me

and I wasn’t ashamed
and I was relieved
knowing
there was the way out of there

I visited my dream again
perfect this time
my infirmity stayed behind

I could run through the space and time
to go back home
to see you mum
for us to spend some time together

and I looked after you
and I made you smile
my perfection — my lie let me

but ashamed of them I ran away
left you there
alone
with an endless sorrow covering the heart

I won’t visit my dreams one day
to escape from the infirmity
and will never regret what’s left behind
but you
