Make Up for Two Faces by Joe Crudo

Layers of cover up,
Her face turns red,
Her lips move fast,
She’s caught in a lie.

Forehead drains sweat,
Hands fight to steady.
Through the wall I hear kids,
Cry,

They know, it’s time to go,
Home here is no more,
Her fingered grip, suffocates my pants,
Her knees push the floor,

Familiar hands cross,
Rest on her back,
Cool steel to her wrists,
Face buried in my pants.

I wipe away foundation.
