Down The Panther River by J.S. MacLean
Don’t go down that river road
where the Panther murmurs nervously,
prowling through complicit trees.
When I staggered up from there,
hot breaths and craving on my back,
all other tracks led down.
Water splinters on the rocks,
clear crystal fire in the blue starlight
lures you on a night time stroll.
It will lead to a hollow,
to a mean shack where hell is cooking;
don’t go down that river road.
