Diet Walk by S.K. Iyer

Put on kilos as some age, while
some gain due to their lifestyle.
My love for food brings tongue full of taste;
as belly bulges out in distaste.
A few speedy steps and I gasp,
lungs fail to hold air in its grasp.
In the flood of people, the pavement sinks;
civilisation in the gutter stinks.
The lady in front is double in size,
it seems, her diet walks on the bad side;
to walk behind her is doubly wise,
to keep the sun on the other side.
As the crowd moves at snail’s pace
my sightless feet look for some space.
