Every few years it’s time
to renew yourself.
I did yesterday.

The last was
misleading,
implying domestic abuse

in some unfortunate
shadowing
over one eye.

In teenage years it
was evidence of

a childhood love:
Pocahontas

emblazoned on my T–shirt.
This time I really tried
to be unremarkable.

So I wonder
what I had on my mind

to cause that nasty
gleam in my eye.
